On Wednesday, 18th of January 2023, we organized the traditional event of cutting the cake for good luck in this new year. Dear friend and canyoner Giannis Arsenis and his team welcomed us to the wonderful event hall “Esperisma” shortly after 8 in the evening.
The atmosphere was festive and relaxed, full of laughter and wishes for the success of the Festival that will take place in May, from Friday 12th to Sunday 21st. Guests were canyoning friends, while there were also people who wanted to experience canyoning in the future.
The hospitality and the food left the best impressions while the lucky charm was won by George, who promised to try an initiation into the world of canyons during the Festival, since he did not have the opportunity until now.
The gift for our lucky friend was Philip Van Den Berge’s book “Canyoning dans le Péloponnèse & en Eubée” which covers about 40 canyons of the Peloponnese, Evia, Sterea Greece and Kythera. The publication of the book was supported by the Greek canyoners friends Giannis Farsarakis, Nikos Pagakis, Stathis Lihoudis and Vrettos Sklavos.
The event was also attended by the “Symbetheres” (Evi Barla, Katrin Fliatoura, Antonia Bairachtari, Marillena Giannopoulou and Sila Papadopoulou) who made the first descent into a Ticino canyon by an all-female Greek team in August 2022.
The event’s aim was to give a small taste of the hospitality of the International Canyoning Festival and the organising committee humorously invited the attending Greek canyoners to an open participation in the upcoming months, to check and insure the descents of the proposed canyons of the area.
